What does sustainable technology look like when it’s at home?

Read on to find out!

You might not have heard the news if you’re not a follower of industrial news or advancements in sustainability, but for anyone interested in efficient, environmentally friendly home appliances, this is worth knowing.

TIME Magazine has placed Beko Corp, Blomberg’s parent company, in the top 9% of its list of the World's Most Sustainable Companies of 2024.

That’s an impressive achievement, to be sure. But what does that mean in practical terms for your home? And how will choosing a Blomberg appliance contribute to a more environmentally sustainable future?

It all comes down to practical features that not only contribute to the future of our environment but offer tangible advantages today.

More resource-saving efficiencies

Winners of the Energy Star Most Efficient award for 2024, Blomberg dishwashers consume 16% less energy annually than a competing brand’s Energy Star certified dishwashers.

Why wait till a water shortage hits to reduce water consumption? Designed to use every drop of water as the precious resource it is, Blomberg dishwashers surpass EPA guidelines for water conservation by over 47%!

More fresh food, less waste

How much food do you think the average Canadian household wastes every year?

Well, a typical household will spend $1766 on groceries that wind up being thrown away. And nationwide, of all the food produced in Canada, 58% of it ends up in landfill, wasting water, land, and contributing significantly to global warming.

It may come as less of a surprise that fruit and vegetables make up 45% of the food wasted in Canada. (Who among us hasn’t guiltily encountered a bag of wilted or soggy “fresh” produce in the back of a refrigerator drawer?)

But there’s good news.

Blomberg’s Blue Light Technology keeps fruit and vegetables fresh for up to 30 days!

How does it work?

Blomberg’s Blue Light Technology uses four mechanisms to slow down the processes that break down plant matter.

  1. Photosynthetic Activation: Blue light activates chlorophyll to maintain enough photosynthesis to reduce wilting.
  2. Biochemical pathway regulation: It also acts on biochemical pathways, including those that produce the plant hormone, ethylene. Reducing ethylene slows down the ripening process, so fruits and veggies can stay fresh longer.
  1. Microbial Inhibition: Blue light carries wavelengths with antimicrobial properties to keep produce clean and fresh.
  2. Reduction of Oxidative Stress: And it maintains antioxidant levels in fresh produce to limit browning and spoiling.

Reducing waste and saving money is great. Keeping produce fresh and appetizing? That’s sustainability you can see and taste!

Fewer ozone-depleting emissions

R600a, the refrigerant used in Blomberg refrigerators is not only less harmful to the ozone layer. It’s also over 32% more efficient than previous refrigerant technology.

Less landfill

We all want appliances to make our daily lives at home run smoothly. What we definitely do not want is more landfill! Blomberg appliances are designed and manufactured to maximize their recyclability.

While Beko Corp is working for a more environmentally sustainable future for everyone, Blomberg’s home appliances are making a difference in households right now.
